Did I mention I’m a dancer? Too petite for ballet, despite studying it my entire life, I chose the modern path, or ‘contemporary’ as it’s called now. Went to college on several dance scholarships and got my BA degree, which went into a box bound for Hollyweird. Although the diploma is still in a box somewhere, I did muster up the motivation to drag out my leg warmers and dust off my dancing feet before putting them one in front of the other on my way to an audition for an experimental and improvisational physical theatre/dance company called MiModa Jazzo. All this, after retiring for a about 10 years in favor of having The Girls. Made the cut….whew!!! That was a year ago, and what a long strange trip it’s been! But I am proud to say that I got back on the horse. If you want to see what I’ve done, watch below for a glimpse. If you like that, click here for some more fun, and if you want to know more about the exciting things going on at MiModa Jazzo Studio, check it out here.
the basket of optimism
I’m just curious. Have you ever been overwhelmed by the feeling that your dreams…the ones that you keep shelving over and over….are about to be realized? I hope so, because I have…. lately, in fact. Maybe it has to do with finally putting all my eggs in a brightly colored, basket of optimism, after gathering up their broken pieces and meticulously super-gluing them back together bit by bit over the last year. Could it be because paying it forward and living right (as my Mama used to call it) shot to the top of the priority list? Or perhaps it has something to do with that look of “mature confidence” The Man remarked about in my new photos. Who knows? For whatever reason though, something is about to happen, and it HAS to be good. Because anymore bad would finish me off…..and I’m not done with this world yet.
Do I sound like a cartoon character?
Well, I sure hope so! After many years of saying (to The Man) “I’d really like to voice a cartoon character”, an opportunity presented itself. Once the initial “deer in headlights” moment passed, I got down to work. 2 scenes, 3 different ways. And I did it, all from the comfort of my own home while wearing my pajamas and using the Voice Memo app on my beloved iPhone!! Picked my favorite versions, and off the audition went via email 🙂 Technology is just the best, isn’t it? That is, besides being in the entertainment industry!!
Not to worry. If my voice happens to make the grade for this big budget, animated feature, and will be headed to a theatre near you in the future……you’ll hear about it!
homework
Let it be known, that I didn’t like 5th grade homework when I was in 5th grade….and I still don’t. There is simply too much of it!! And what used to come so easy to me when I was young(er) and bright(er), is now rather difficult to wrap my mind around. When I am called to assist the Oldest Girl with the mounds of work due each day, I am reminded why I didn’t become a teacher, and I’m not afraid nor ashamed to admit that it’s because I SUCK AT IT!!!! That being said, we do get through the work. Eventually. But it’s not without me wanting to shout several times, at the very top of my volume capacity….. “YOU WILL NEVER NEED LONG DIVISION! LET’S GO GET ICE CREAM INSTEAD.”
