the first married meal

For the last week and a half, I’ve had the ‘super flu/cold sent straight from Satan’s special collection’. Oh, joy…lucky me!! Felt, and looked like a big rig hit me, saw I was still moving, backed up and ran over me again just for fun. FOR TEN DAYS. But today, finally, I was feeling better. So I decided my family needed to be fed a meal that hadn’t come from the freezer, a drive-thru or a delivery man named Long Duck Dong. Now, I’m no super mom, but dammit….I try. Even more so when I feel guilty for slacking under the veil of multi-symptom whammo cold. Sooooooo…….imagine my dismay when this glorious meal of baked chicken, salad, and homemade, cheesy mashed potatoes (as opposed to our usual Idahoan Four Cheese from the pouch) was met with the following comments:

E: The chicken is good, but I don’t like the potatoes.

T: Me either.

G: I like them!! (brown noser)

Me: What’s wrong with them? I made them from scratch, just like you asked for.

E: There are chunks of Velveeta (said as if it were a dirty word) in them.

Me: And that is a problem, why?

E: Because Velveeta isn’t good in everything.

Me: Fine. Don’t eat them. But don’t ask for homemade mashed potatoes anymore.

G: I like them!! (brown noser now hoping for dessert)

E: I can’t believe you are upset with me because I don’t like the potatoes.

Me: Well, when you are married with children and you cook for them, you’ll understand.

T: When I get married the first meal I’m going to cook is lasagna. (I don’t know where this came from because she won’t even eat lasagna.)

Me: That’s great, baby. E, what are you going to cook for your first married meal?

E: Chicken pot pie.

Me: Frozen chicken pot pie?

E: Not all chicken pot pie has to be frozen, Mom. (12 year old eye-roll)

Me: Whatever. G, what are you going to cook?

G: (blank stare)

Me: G…I asked you a question. What will your first married meal be?

G: (realizing the dessert quest is futile) Can I be done?

Me: Sure. (G leaves the table).

T: I changed my mind. When I get married, I am going to Hollywood to get Chick-fil-A for my first meal!!!

Me: That’s my girl!!! (hi-fives all around)

Watch out world, my girls are already planning!!  That is, of course, because they are completely unaware that their father has no plans to let them date.

Ever.

best 2 days ever

Monday was my Oldest’s birthday. She turned 12. Wowza….I have a pre-teen. The day was grande though! Cake for breakfast, presents (including a pogo stick) in the afternoon, and the event I have been waiting on the arrival of for 5 years: her return to gymnastics. She began training when she was 4.5, reached competition level, and decided it was too much. I cried that day. Nothing worse than watching your child, with a divine given talent for a sport decide to quit, having no choice but to allow it. Swore that if she returned, it would be her idea, and I patiently waited. Finally, it happened, and away she went. Muscle memory kicked in, and she lit up the facility. On the way home, she said, “Mommy it feels so good to be back on the mat!”. Music to my ears:-) Tonight she is being evaluated for placement on one of the teams (update to follow). Wish her luck!

So that was Monday. Yesterday held another surprise….

I received notification that my Youngest had been granted a Kindergarten spot at the school where my Middle baby attends. Hallelujah! She starts tomorrow. The only hurdle left, is getting the Oldest there. We’ll know in a couple of weeks. Nonetheless, my life is getting easier!

Oh, and just this morning I received a very sweet email from Andrea Burridge with Mereadesso Woman, informing me that I have a goody bag full of their phenomenal skin care products on it’s way via FedEx!! You really must visit their site, and order some Face + Neck Toning Gel. It’s an all-in-one product I will never be able to live without. Ever. Although I already have a few products from Sophyto I have been using for a bit, this new gem of a product fit right in!!! So wonderful when things peacefully co-exist together, huh?

Ciao for now….I have to embrace Wednesday and see what else is in store!!

my little wedding fairies

There is something to be said when a nanny makes such an impression on the families she works for that the 6 youngest attendants in her wedding…spanning from age 21 down to age 5….have all been cared for by her. Congrats to Kyra (and now David), who will ALWAYS BE PART OF OUR FAMILY !!!!

my land of Oz

It’s been a little bit since I updated this very public display of private, streaming consciousness, so I thought I would do so, lest y’all lose interest. I will try to keep it brief.

Many things have happened in MY land of Oz. We lost a beloved pet, organized a massive relief effort for Alabama, celebrated the Youngest Girl’s birthday, completed a kick-ass 5th grade state report (on Bama), went to Disneyland and got a new car. Wait….that sounds like we actually got the car AT D-land, which, we did NOT. Anyway, it’s been busy, to say the least. The next couple of weeks promises not to disappoint either: elementary field day, preschool picnic and graduation,  5th grade grad week field trips and graduation, and FINALLY a family camping adventure!!!! There will be plenty of pictures of all activities to come, but for now, here is a shot of Disneyland….kind of 🙂
